Bhumika Sharma, hailing from Dehradun, has won the Miss World title at the World Bodybuilding Championship held in Venice last week. With this, she has debunked the myth that bodybuilding is largely a male-dominated sport and only men can excel at it.

The championship comprised 50 contestants from around the world and Sharma was one of the 27 Indians to rock the tournament. She gained the most number of points in body posing, individual posing and fall category.

“The Indian squad had 27 members. I was the lone woman bodybuilder. I gained enough points in all the three rounds and made the country proud,” Bhumika told HT’s sister publication Hindi Hindustan.

But bodybuilding wasn’t her original choice. Her parents – Hansa Manral Sharma the head coach of the India women’s weightlifting team and Vishwavijay Sharma, a businessman – wanted her to become a shooter but fate had something else in store for her.

During a shooting event in New Delhi three years ago, a chance meeting with a bodybuilding coach changed the life.

She follows a punishing schedule on the fitness center for as much as seven hours a day. Bhumika has now set her sights on the Miss Universe title for bodybuilding. Bhumika is the one lady bodybuilder from Uttarakhand who has made mark in the nationwide /worldwide area.

“I am preparing hard for Miss Universe Championship to be held in December this year” she advised the newspaper.

She’s not done yet, the 21-year-old is busy preparing for the World Universe Championship that will be held in December this year.
